Students Put Agriculture into Action
Students in Dr. Amy Smith’s AFEE 1001: Introduction to Agricultural Education, Communication, and Marketing class recently developed and delivered educational agriculture and food-related presentations to St. Paul area middle school students and South Minneapolis 4-H members. The small-group presentations required students to work together, applying course content related to personal strengths, diverse agricultural perspectives, and characteristics of effective agricultural professionals. In total, 28 Agricultural Education and Agricultural Communication & Marketing students shared their expertise with over 170 youth, with nearly 150 of them being 5th and 6th graders at Horace Mann Elementary, Murray Middle School, and Linwood Monroe Upper Elementary. Topics included Minnesota agricultural products, nutrition, and food safety and handling.
