Biography
About Me
Hey everyone!
I grew up in Dassel, Minnesota where I was actively involved in FFA during high school. Serving as both an officer at large and president of my local chapter, I learned the value of leadership and mentorship. These experiences inspired me to pursue a career in academic advising.
After high school, I pursued my education at South Dakota State University (SDSU), earning a Bachelor's Degree in Human Development and Family Studies, followed by a Master's degree focusing on Administration in Student Affairs. During my time as a graduate student, I gained valuable experience working with students on academic probation through my graduate assistantship in the Academic Success and Recovery Program, serving as a career coach intern with SDSU's Career Development Office, as well as interning with the U.S. Department of Education, Department of Federal Student Aid (FSA).
Throughout my career in higher education, I've been passionate about supporting first-generation students and ensuring all students have the resources they need to succeed academically and personally. Before joining CFANS, I worked as an academic advisor at the College of Biological Sciences. I'm excited to meet with you all and assist you on your academic journey!
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, exploring new restaurants, playing board and video games, cheering on the Minnesota Vikings, reading, and attending musicals and concerts.
Advising Philosophy
As an academic advisor, it is my primary mission to assist students as they navigate their college experience and prepare for their future endeavors. My goal is to create a brave space for students to meet and develop their own self-efficacy and autonomy. I believe that students are the driving force behind their education and goals, and I strive to support them during their time as undergraduate students. I guide students in utilizing available resources and engage in discussions about all scenarios to empower them to make informed decisions throughout their entire academic journey.
