Plan C: Initial Licensure

Overview

The Agricultural Education & Communication Initial Licensure program at the University of Minnesota is designed to help individuals become accomplished professional educators. Students in the MS Initial Licensure program will complete rigorous coursework and diverse field experience designed to meet Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing Standards Board (PELSB) standards. Program graduates fulfill all requirements for a 5-12 Agricultural Education license and 9-12 Teacher Coordinator of Work-based Learning endorsement.

Students will deepen their understanding of agricultural education and work-based learning, develop skills in curriculum and instruction, and gain valuable hands-on experience in real classroom settings. By working closely with experienced faculty members and engaging in practical teaching experiences, students will be well-equipped to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for their future students and classrooms.

Curriculum

Our program is designed to be completed over the course of four (4) semesters for on-campus, full-time students. However, given unique student circumstances, program requirements may be spread over a longer period of time. Additionally, a combination of in-person, hybrid, and/or remote courses are available.

Working with an assigned advisor, students will create a personalized academic program plan that best meets their personal goals and fulfills the Minnesota teacher licensure requirements as outlined by the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing Standards Board (PELSB).
