Internships

Internships are a critical part of your college career. Not only do internships provide valuable experiential learning in your field of interest, but they also provide learning opportunities outside of the classroom.

Research shows that 50% of employers expect students to have two to three internships by the time they graduate. This means you can and should consider doing internships regardless of your year in school and regardless of your age.

What is an internship?

An internship is a position that allows you to gain experience in the field you are considering. Typically the position allows you to develop new skills and offers both training and supervision.

How do I find an Internship?

Check out the finding Jobs and Internships section of the Career & Internship Services website or visit Handshake, the job posting site for students and alumni, to view internship listings.

When is the best time to do an internship?

Freshmen or sophomores can do internships, as can first year graduate students. Recent national research shows that 50% of employers expect students to have 2 to 3 internships by graduation. Bottom line–you can and should consider doing internships regardless of your year in school and regardless of your age…employers enjoy working with non-traditional students.
